Montclair and Manassas Park Named to CNN/Money Magazine's 2011 Best Places to Live in America

Montclair Ranked #35; Manassas Park #56

More good news for Prince William County. Coming just a year after being named one of the top job creating counties in America, two of our towns have been further singled out.

The magazine ranked Montclair at #35 and Manassas Park at #56 -- in the top 100 list of America's most livable towns. [By the way, Leesburg came in #4.] Only towns with populations under 50,000 are considered. The factors considered included the unemployment rate, job growth, median family income, school test scores, average temperatures, median age of residents, crime rates and home prices.

Money said that Montclair "offers residents plenty of commutable jobs plus lots of wide-open space." The magazine also liked Montclair's 108 acre lake and it's community activities like Montclair Day, the Fourth of July Fireworks (note we also have Octoberfest which was not mentioned) and nearby attractions and recreation like the Prince William Forest National Park.

Here are key Montclair Community Statistics Money cited. Montclair has a population of 19,800; median family income of $122,608; median home price is $306,000; job growth between 2000 - 2010 was 31.11%; personal crime rate (per 1,000 people) was 2; property crime rate was 24.

Maureen Caddigan, a member of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors, and also a long-time Montclair resident, was asked about Montclair's inclusion in the prestigious list. She told the News & Messenger:

I really shouldn't be surprised. It's a very close-knit community and a great place to raise your kids.

Catherine Kudrick, president of the Montclair Property Owners Association (MPOA) said when Money first contacted the MPOA:

Our response was that they must have us confused with another Montclair. They replied that there was no confusion. ... Needless to say, Montclair residents are proud of their community and very pleased with this national recognition.

Money said that Manassas City was "a tight-knit group of families with a school system that the Center for American Progress ranked this year as the most efficient in the region." It also said the city was "a more affordable alternative to neighboring towns in Fairfax County, VA and Montgomery County, MD. Money also liked that Manassas Park has one of the lowest unemployment rates in Virginia at 5% and also has a very diverse population.
