Prince William County Recreation Centers and Parks

The Prince William County Department of Parks & Recreation does a very good job of providing affordable and accessible recreation and park facilities to the citizens of Prince William County, Virginia. Located all across the county provides both indoor and outdoor sporting and fitness opportunities.

Ben Lomond Community Center

Caring staff and experienced teachers makes Ben Lomond Community Center a great choice for children's dance, enrichment programs, and day care programming for the Bull Run region.

The 2-story community center Ben Lomond contains:

• Two meeting rooms
• A Play School room and two dance studio rooms.
• Outdoor playground
• Basketball, volleyball and tennis courts
• Five pavilions for rent
• Two miles of trails connecting to Mayhew Park
• Picnic tables
• Grill areas perfect for outdoor get-togethers!
  

Baseball, softball, Little Leagues and T-ball leagues all meet on the stone dust fields at BLRP.

Birchdale Recreation Center

The 2,500 sq. ft. Birchdale Recreation Center houses local meeting spaces and restroom facilities. Birchdale Park contains:

• Two basketball courts
• A playground
• Two pavilions
• A 25-meter pool with bath house
• A small neighborhood skate park
  

The introduction of the skate park was part of a community effort to address changing recreational needs and interests of the Dale City community. Pavilions are also available for use.

Chinn Aquatics & Fitness Center (CAFC)

Chinn Aquatics & Fitness Center located next door to the Chinn Regional Library, the Chinn indoor fitness facility falls on 91+ acres of land, and offers:

• Nearly 60,000 sq. ft. of fitness rooms
• Standard Gym Equipment
• Saunas
• Massage Services
• Racquetball Courts
• Child Care
• Multi-purpose Rooms
• Pool Recreation.

The pool area contains a 50-meter indoor pool, two 16-person hot tubs and leisure/children's wading pool and onsite lifeguards. Outdoors, Chinn offers a playground with rubberized surface, pavilion and jogging trail.

The bottom line is that if you are looking for a place for a great workout -- Chinn is your best bet as far as county facilities.  If you want to pay more then you can't beat  Woodbridge Sport and Health Club.   In my opinion, Woodbridge Sport and Health is the best workout facility in Prince William County.  But, they are more expensive than the county rec centers.   Here's Chinn's website:

If you join Chinn, you also get to use Dale City Rec Center (see below).  If you join Dale City, then you can use Chinn but have to pay a $1 per day user fee.  The rec centers also allow you to pay a daily fee with no membership, but it's a bit steep.

Sharron Baucom Dale City Recreation Center (SBDCRC) has been serving the community since 1976. The 36,000-sq. ft. center is equipped with -

• A 25-meter pool with locker rooms
• Lounge, multipurpose room
• Dance studio
• Classrooms
• Two day care rooms
• Two gyms
• A racquetball court
• A cardio/weight training room.

Outdoors, SBDCRC is home to three Little League fields, a pavilion with lights, water and grills nearby, and a 9-station, multi-season batting cage.   This is a nice facility; though old and in need of renovation.  The main thing they are missing is a sauna.  But, they do have a hot tub.

Lake Ridge Golf & Marina

Lake Ridge Golf & Marina located in Lake Ridge directly on the Occoquan Reservoir, our facilities offer breathtaking views, wildlife and water activities! The LRP Marina offers three-season boat rentals, with a boat ramp and dock access for pass-holders and the crew building houses crew boats.

For land recreation, you may try:

• Par 3, 9-hole golf course
• Driving range or 18-hole mini-golf course
• With nearby concessions at the Clubhouse.
  

Pavilions with outdoor grills available, as well as horseshoe pits and nature trails - some of which were built by local Boy Scouts of America troops.

Locust Shade Park

Locust Shade Park is at right off of Interstate-95 near the Quantico Marine Corps base in eastern Prince William County, Locust Shade is a friendly neighborhood park and the perfect destination for a lazy summer's day:

• Batting cages
• 18-hole miniature golf course
• Golf driving range
• Marina building with boat rentals on an 8-acre lake
• Playgrounds
• Tennis and volleyball courts
• Pavilion rentals
• Fitness & nature trails
• Lake with fishing and boat rentals
• Horseshoe pits and our 400-seat outdoor amphitheatre

Veterans Memorial Park

"Vets Park" is adjacent to the beautiful Marumsco Creek and Occoquan Bay National Water Reserve for fantastic wildlife-watching and trail walks. Veterans Memorial Park recreation Facilities:

• Home  to several sports leagues including swimming, soccer, football, baseball, softball, Little League, basketball, and volleyball.
• The community center hosts open gym days for both basketball and indoor soccer year-round, as well as dance classes, sports classes, childcare and mini-camps.
• The Scott D. Eagles Skatepark features a vertical ramp half-pipe and a 6300-sq. ft. free skate concrete course and a 60-ft long kidney bowl for a challenging ride!
• The 50-meter outdoor pool is accompanied by a slide, graduated entry for the little ones and adjacent bathhouse with concessions close by.
• Grills, picnic tables, horseshoe pits, pavilions and restrooms are available throughout the park.
  

Vets Park now boasts the largest skate park in Prince William County, and best of all, it's free!
