Mission Statement

Virginia Railway Express, a joint project of the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission and the Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission, will provide safe, cost-effective, accessible, customer-responsive, reliable, rail passenger service as an integral part of a balanced, intermodal regional transportation system.

About Virginia Railway Express

Virginia Railway Express is a commuter rail service that operates Monday through Friday from the Northern Virginia suburbs to Washington D.C. We primarily travel northbound in the morning, towards Washington, and southbound during the evening, towards Manassas (along I-66), and Fredericksburg (along I-95). VRE does not operate service on weekends or Federal holidays.

The "S" trains operate daily. However, on selected holidays, in times of inclement weather, or other service disruptions, Virginia Railway Express will operate the "S" schedule, which means that only the trains marked with an "S" will run.
