Haymarket

Haymarket is located at 38°48'46"N 77°38'6"W. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.5 square miles. The population was 879 at the 2000 census and 321 households, and 234 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,725.2 people per square mile

There were 321 households out of which 43.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.9% were married couples living together, 7.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.8% were non-families. 19.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 2.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.74 and the average family size was 3.21.

The median income for a household in the town was $70,833, and the median income for a family was $76,197. Males had a median income of $51,576 versus $32,917 for females. The per capita income for the town was $26,503.

Haymarket, in northwest Prince William County, owes its location to an abandoned Indian hunting path which became Old Carolina Road. The town has been revived with a collection of quaint restored buildings and shops. In the mid-1990s, The Walt Disney Company planned to build a history-themed park, to be called Disney's America, in Haymarket, but the plan was scrapped due to opposition from a variety of groups.
