Quantico is located in the Washington Metropolitan area and is part of Prince William County Virginia. The Potomac River borders the town to the west and the rest is surrounded by the Marine Corps Base Quantico. Just to the north is the mouth of Quantico Creek.
Quantico Marine Corps Base is the a major training base and is known as the "Crossroads of the Marine Corps". Located on the base are the Corps's Combat Development Command, the Marine Corps Officer Candidates School and the Marine Corps Research Center. Also on the base are the FBI Academy for the training of Federal Bureau of Investigation agents and a training facility for the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Brand new and an absolute "must see" is the National Museum of the Marine Corps. The museum has modern, high-tech, exhibits that will make you feel like you are actually landing with the Marines at Iwo Jima; Vietnam or even Korea. It's an amazing experience that you'll remember forever. And, it's free!
There are four incorporated towns in Prince William County. They are Dumfries, Haymarket, Occoquan and Quantico. The rest of the towns are called unincorporated communities.
Residents of Quantico have many ways of furthering their education. Within a 30 mile radius of the town are theseinstitutions of higher education: American University, Georgetown University, George Washington University, Marymount University, George Mason University and Northern Virginia Community College -- among others.
To prepare for college many residents of the town attend a private high school called Quantico High. Also located in this small town is a Bank of America and the Crossroads Inn at the base.
This is the heart of Virginia's Civil War Battlefield country and has historic sightseeing that is nonstop for days. The hour drive to Washington DC could easily take days if you plan to see everything in between these two locations. Along the road up Interstate 95 you should stop at Dumfries and visit the Weems-Botts Museum. Across the road from Dumfries is the Prince William Forest Park. Further up the road you will be close to Fountainhead Regional Park, Mason Neck State Park and Piscataway National Park.
This drive could also include a day at the Potomac Mills Mall, that is if you love shopping and eating, and maybe a movie. Going in the opposite direction both mentally and physically you will find yourself at the Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge. The town of Occoquan should be visited also. See all the historic buildings and if you dare, take the ghost walk. Just across the Occoquan River is the Occoquan Regional Park.
Moving on up the highway you may want to visit the Joseph Plaskeet Park, or the Pohick Estates Park, or maybe the Accotink Park. Save some time for Hooes Road Park because it is huge.
As you can see, the fun never ends in Prince William County VA. From Quantico to DC, thru Occoquan, Dumfries and Woodbridge, it is all about the sights, the parks and the history. And of course, the shopping. Visit soon and plan to stay a while.

Quantico is at 38°31'19" North, 77°17'23" West. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.1 square miles. The population was 561 at the 2000 census and 295 households, and 107 families residing in the town. The population density is 7,811.2 people per square mile.
There are 295 households out of which 19.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 21.4% are married couples living together, 11.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 63.4% are non-families. 53.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 1.90 and the average family size is 3.02.
The median income for a male is $29,615 versus $23,125 for females. The per capita income for the town is $19,087. 21.4% of the population and 22.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 39.4% of those under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
Quantico, Virginia is a town in Prince William County, located in Washington Metropolitan Area. It is totally surrounded by Marine Corps Base Quantico on three sides and the Potomac River on the fourth. Quantico is the site of one of the largest U.S. Marine Corps bases in the world. Both the United States Drug Enforcement Administration's training academy and the FBI Academy are on the base. A replica of the USMC War Memorial stands in the entrance to the base.
