I just wanted to give Kudos to the Prince William County School system for its key role in PWC being named one of the nation's top 100 Best Communities for Young People -- by America's Promise Alliance. This is the second straight year Prince William County has been named.
America's Promise said that Prince William County, Virginia was especially deserving of the recognition because of it's efforts to ensure our young people graduate high school and go on to live healthy, productive lives. They said:
"Prince William County refuses to let the challenges they face determine the future for their young people. Instead, they are helping their youth prosper and become contributing members of society."
America's Promise stated that PWC has an 88 percent graduation rate -- well above the national average.
Others recognized for contributing to Prince William County youth include the following organizations:
Beat the Odds
NOVA Healthy Kids Coalition
GEAR UP
Parents as Educational Partners
Learn and Serve
Prince William Volunteer Action Center
The Gang Response and Intervention Team
County officials will get a $2500 grant to help a local youth program.
Congrats again to Prince William County and especially the school system!
