Top 10 Things to Do in Prince William County: Bonus #11 –- July 4th HMI City of Manassas
There’s plenty of fireworks displays to go to in the Washington, D.C. area, especially the ones on the National Mall, or more local ones, like the festivities and fireworks at Signal Hill Park in Manassas Park or at the Potomac Nationals’ minor league baseball game in Pfitzner Stadium.
In Prince William County, more than 60,000 prefer to attend one of the largest fireworks displays in Northern Virginia – right in the heart of the historic City of Manassas, Virginia.
This year, the Celebrate America July 4th festivities begin at 4 pm with an all-American beach party in Old Town Manassas near the Manassas Depot and the Harris Pavilion. Dance to the country sounds of Jay Henley and The Stone Broke Band, live. A hoof trimmer and butcher by day, and singer/songwriter/performer by night, Jay’s most recent CD, “This’ll Be a Memory” was recorded in Nashville. Jay and his band, Stone Broke, perform up and down the east coast at dance clubs, outdoor concerts and festivals and have opened for Keith Urban, Trace Adkins, Craig Morgan and Lady Antebellum, to name a few.

In previous years the party has also included funnel cake and other favorite carnival foods, face painting, hayrides and an apple pie baking contest – check the Historic Manassas Web site for more details as they develop at www.visitmanassas.org..
Festival goers like to sit on the lawn of the Manassas Museum and surrounding areas to watch the fireworks, which begin at about 9:15 pm.
The festivities are free, sponsored by the City of Manassas. The fireworks display is has been a gratefully received annual gift from a generous – but anonymous – donor.
