Neglected Old Dog -- Where Report?

(Woodbridge)

Our roomate has a dog that is around 8 years old according to him. The dog always smells bad, has a terrible skin rash, is losing it's hair, has a bump on it hind parts, it scratches at it's eye and usually looks like it has an eye infection, it can barely eat, when it does, food goes everywhere, and it is left inside a small room for hours on end at times.

I have seen the roomate stick a wooden spoon in it's mouth on one occasion, and the dog spit up the food. At one time, he had tape wrapped around the dogs tail, and when asked why he said, "She has a bump there". We told him he needed to get her to a vet, and wasn't listening, finally he did so.

We are very concerned about this dogs well being, and wonder what we can do about this. She also has a questionable red bump on her snout.

Hi, thanks for your report, question and concern. It's sometimes difficult to know at what point an animal would be better off in a shelter than with his or her owner. But, you can get good advice by talking to the professionals. We've added a link on the page above to the SPCA. You also could contact the Animal Control Bureau.

Good luck!

Thank you, that is good to know. However, he has since gotten the dog medical attention, and she seems to be doing better. We will continue to keep an eye on it, and hopefully she gets the care she needs, when she needs it.
